WORKING TO PROTECT
   OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN                  IN MISSOURI AND KANSAS

          Educate   Advocate   Participate

The greatest gift we can bestow on all Missouri and Kansas children and grandchildren is the opportunity
to grow and thrive in an environment free of the threat
of gun violence.

Are we against guns? NO.
Are we against gun violence? YES.

Our Mission:

We will reduce gun violence through education, advocacy and participation in actions to keep our children and grandchildren safe at home, at school and in our community.

Our History:

We were the first local chapter of Grandmothers Against Gun Violence established in 2013 as a response to the Sandy Hook school tragedy. In September 2015, we changed our name to Grandparents Against Gun Violence to become more inclusive, and developed a new logo and tagline. We continue to be a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization.

Our Primary Concern: Impact on Our Children

We understand the psychological impacts on children subjected to recurrent gun violence. We cannot sit by and allow our children to mature…

  • deprived of safe environments;
  • subjected to constant fear and insecurity;
  • dealing with the loss of family and friends; and
  • developing a sense that life is precarious at best.

Constitutional Rights and Guns: Seeking Appropriate Balance

We do not seek to eliminate Second Amendment rights. We recognize the misunderstandings associated with the appropriate gun use/ownership debate.

Rather we will:

  • participate in programs that reduce community violence, and
  • support efforts to pass legislation for expanded background checks that safeguard our children from those who abuse the right to own and carry guns.

Sandy Hook Anniversary Vigil/Demonstration

  • Wednesday Dec 14, 5:00-6:30 PM
  • Plaza Fountain, 47th and JC Nichols Parkway

We will be joined by many community organizations and faith groups as well. PLEASE plan to attend – we will be there with our banner and encourage our members to come and wear orange. Make any signs you want, such as “We Support Background Checks” or anything else you want to say.
